Interrail 2012

Because of my desire to see other countries especially Europe,I decided to travel Europe with Interrail.Interrail provides people travel all the Europe with train and its price is cheap when you consider you travel that much.

Firstly,I had some trouble to find friends who have same desire as much as I have. But later this problem has solved and 4 friends decided to start travelling on 11 July 2012,with Rome!

Italy

Rome

On the 11th of July we lifted of from Sabiha Gökçen Airport to the Fiumicino Airport which is in Rome.
It was the first photo of our travel while trying to find our hostel.
It took one hour to find our hostel which is very close to Rome Termini.Weather was so hot and there were much damp than in Turkey.

First day we travelled Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain, one of the most famous places in the Italy. The fountain at the junction of three main roads and it has an importance with its history. There is a tradition at there, people throw coins into fountain and estimated 3.000 euros are thrown each day.The money has been used to subsidize a supermarket for Rome's needy. It was very tiring day and we thought that we would drink two beers and go to sleep but it didn't like that.We met with friends who also travelling Europe with Interrail and also studying in METU.At first we said each other that it was a tough day and we would go back to hostels at most 11 pm and we went to an Irish Pub.That was really fun and when we came back to our room it was 6 a.m. :)

We at Spanish Steps

A night view from Spanish Steps

Second day we couldn't wake up early but it was a good day for seeing around. We went to Vatican City and Castel Sant Angelo. We were amazed by Italian traffic regilations and streets that smells history.Vatican City was very interesting and I think that it is one of the places that every man should see before he dies.It is the smallest independent state in the world. It has an area of 44 hectares and a population 832.
It is protected by Swiss guards and it has an importance such as holy place for Christian people.

After the Vatican City,we went to Castel Sant'Angelo which built in 135 AD-139 AD.Its meaning in English is "Castle of Holy Angel." and it was initially built by Roman emperor as a mausoleum for him and for his family. After popes used the castle and it is a museum now.I think most attractive side of Castel Sant'Angelo is its view.

The third day of Rome we went to see Colosseo and the Ancient City.It was really hard to realize the money  in Europe when you're eating, shopping or drinking. For instance if there was a water which price is 2 euros we immediatly act like "Oh gush, that is almost five Liras. We cannot buy it." But after we realized that we could die because of starving or thirsty and we decided that we no longer think the money in Liras, just Euros.Anyway, third day was not that amazing in the meaning of touristic attraction.I don't really surprised or like the Ancient City,I think the reason is we have some kind of that Ancient things in our own country.

Colosseo was not so bad but if we consider that seeing Vatican City just previous day.It didn't attract me that much.

When we were deciding who is going to ask from someone to take a photo of us in Turkish. One guy came and said "Ben çekerim çocuklar." and this photo showed up.

Things that I recall from Rome: Pizzas, streets, fact that Rome is just like an open air museum.

Firenze

Firenze didn't welcome us kindly.First,we got off the train wrong station and we couldn't find the bus stop where we can go to the city centre. After searching for bus stop,we got on the bus but we didn't know that we should have bought a ticket :) Unfortunately officer got on the bus too and start to check whether passengers have ticket. We were in a quandary for a moment and then we ran away from bus.If we were caught, the penalty that we have to pay was 400 euro per person.

What we saw on the wall in the city center of Firenze.

Finally we found our hostel and after had a quick shower we made way.

We didn't have any map of the city so that it was hard to find
beauties of Firenze.

But when we found it,we were just shocked and amazed.City was a pure beauty.

Florence is the city which has everything you are searching for.City is known by another name "Cradle of Renaissance."
Basillica di Santa Maria del Fiore was amazing church of Firenze. We forgot our cameras at hostel that day,and the church did not fit into screen of the phone. We couldn't enter the Uffizi Museum because of the time but even its appereance from outside was amazing.
Most beautiful thing in the city was the Ponte Vecchio which is a old bridge at the heart of Firenze.

Panoramic view of the Ponte Vecchio

After a great day,we met with friends of ours and we found another reason why Firenze can be the best city in the world.Drinks were so cheap that night.

Second day of Florence we decided to go to Pisa and see famous Pisa Tower. The city Pisa was one and half hour away from Florence by train and actually there was nothing but Pisa Tower and a cathedral. My observation for Pisa that there were so many Turkish people that's all.But of course we took photos with the tower

After Italy nest destination was Barcelona!

Barcelona

After long and very tired journey we arrived Barcelona.Although we bought Milano-Barcelona train tickets 5 day earlier from journey. There were only 3 seats for cheapest part of train which was 50 euro.So we bought 3 of them and one from the upper sleeping compartment but we had to draw a number for the expensive one because it has both advantes and disadvantages.I was the lucky one and I had my bed on train which was much important thing when you consider joruney was about 18 hours.I got the night with 3 Mexicans.

It was so hard to find the house which we would stay.It was a bit expensive because we rented 2 rooms of a house and we stayed with 2 French girls 3 nights.Barcelona was not so good to me maybe least beautiful city I've travelled during Interrail. That was not Barcelona's fault,in fact that was caused bu our own wrong strategies.First night we were cheated by a man who stands all day in La Rambla which is the most famous street of the city (like Istiklal in İstanbul) he told that we could enter 4 nightclubs in 7 days with the ticket that he tries to sell just for 15 euros. Then we found out that there were no such nightclub in the city :(

Second day was so tired because we rented bike unfortunately and we couldn't entered Nou Camp -Barcelona's football stadium- because of the price.Sad point that we went there with bikes (like 25 km from city center) and third day we wasted all day for waiting our dry cleaning.

What I remembered from Barcelona:  Gaudi's amazing architectures,Sagrada Familia -Gaudi's Church which was not finished over years-,amazing subway train system.

And of course our 2 friends paying for a lunch which included rice with octopus 80 euros.

Paris

Going to Paris was also so difficult.Since direct trains from Barcelona to Paris so expensive first we went to Perpignan which held in South France and then we went to Paris. We wasted our 6 hours in a fast-food restaurant in Perpignan until our train destinate.

When we arrived to Paris it was 11 pm and we couldn't go to our hostel until 12 am so that we left our luggage to the station and decided to eat something. We bought 16 hamburgers from McDonalds -like other 27 days we just ate from McDonalds- then we returned to the station,at 2 am officers said us and other homeless people we should go out and come back at 5 am.We walked into city and we went to the Bastille we were so tired because we were on roads from morning and we have no place to stay.Air was so cold. After some horrible memories with homeless people we turned back to station and we felt cold to the death.I don't understand how could we survive that cold.

Other thay with the 2 hours sleep in 28 hours went to Eiffel Tower and famous Champs Elysees street and beautiful things on the riverside Of Paris.
We drank wine right near from river in Notre-Dame and that was totally peaceful.City was amazed me with its passion and view

Second day we spared our all morning to Louvre Museum.Museum increased my Paris love that was amazing. We couldn't see 4th floor and  it took our 5 hours.Louvre Museum is absolutely must seen thing before men die.

After Paris, next destination is Brussels!
Brussels is capital city of Belgium and sayed that captial city of Europe for the bureocracy.
Unfortunately, my photos of large proportion of the trip was deleted including France, Belgium and Netherland. Therefore, I am not able to share the beauties of those cities by my eyesight.

What I noticed for Belgian people is that they are kind, helpful and have smily face all the time.

And for Brussels, there is a well-known legend called Manneken Pis. That famous statue is very small ( 61 cm) There are so many legends about Manneken Pis but I think the most entertaining one is that the young boy who was awoken by a fire and was able to put out the fire with his urine, in the end this helped stop the king's castle from burning down.

That was my part of trip of Interrail. After Paris I travelled Brugges,Brussels,Amsterdam,Prague,Vienna and Bratislava.

Trip was totally exhausted but I think I feel that way because my Interrail was took long time. But that was an amazing life experience.I saw lots of things, cultures and had some much fun :)
